Girls U15s go close in National Cup

01 Jun 2014

The U15s came up 14 runs short in a high scoring encounter v Great Melton in the National Club U15 8 a side girl’s cup.  Inserting the opposition, Thriplow struck with the second ball of the match as a ‘snorter’ from Freya Watrasiewicz produced a leading edge which was snaffled by Rachel Howe.  However this was the only wicket to fall for some time as, despite tight bowling, the six fielders were forced to run and dive to keep the runs in check on the full size outfield, Victoria Neild and Annabel Follows showing great energy.

The bowlers all stuck to their task: Lara Neild -1-22, Freya 1-30, Odette Abbasi 0-37 and Trinity Hales 0-50. Lara bowled the other opener late on but a final flurry saw them post a challenging 144-2 from their 20 overs.

Setting off needed a fraction over 7 an over, Lucy Duncan and Freya were undaunted and a succession of boundaries and quick singles saw them well up with the rate. They posted a century opening stand – the first in living memory for any Thriplow side! – but when Freya was run out for 43 the pendulum swung back to the home side.

Lucy reached her maiden 50 off only fifty balls– and the first in any Thriplow ladies side - before being bowled and the last few overs saw a flurry of wickets and runs but Thriplow finished agonisingly on 130-4.
